Check key operational parameters

Before adjusting chemistry, verify these six operational conditions when a bath stops performing correctly.

  1. Temperature

    Match your chemical supplier’s specification. Heating inconsistencies drastically alter deposition rates.

  2. Bath pH

    Confirm pH is within your process range using a calibrated probe. It can shift quickly and affect pitting, lustre, and deposit quality before metal levels change.

  3. Voltage and amperage

    Verify rectifier output and check for excessive AC ripple, which can cause rough, brittle, or dull deposits.

  4. Electrical contacts

    Inspect bus bars, anode hooks, and cathode contacts for corrosion. Poor connections impede current flow.

  5. Agitation

    Confirm air spargers or mechanical pumps are running — without agitation, electrolyte starves near the part surface.

  6. Anodes and sludge

    Check anode material and condition. Clean anode bags so sludge does not enter the bath.
